The Eiffel Tower is the best known image of France, and more than 6 million people visit it each year. It was built in the 1880s to be the highlight of the 1889 World's Fair, held that year in Paris. The designer, Gustave Eiffel, was also the engineer and he had previously helped to construct the Statue of Liberty.
Standing 1,063 ft. tall, the Eiffel Tower is about the same height of an 81-story building and there are elevators to take visitors to the top of the tower.
